Shownotes:

Welcome back to the Creative On The Grind Podcast! I'm your host, DeAndra Jalisa, and I'm excited to share this very personal episode with you, titled "Don't be Afraid to Take a Step Back: Lessons Learned from My Hiatus."

Introduction

In this episode, I delve into the challenges I've faced recently and the valuable lessons I've learned from taking a step back from my various ventures. As creative entrepreneurs, we often encounter life's unexpected curveballs, and these can be particularly tough to handle when you're running your own business.

Life's Curveballs and Personal Experience

Life can throw tremendous curveballs at us, regardless of our career paths. For me, a significant personal event required me to completely change my life. I had to move and get my life in order, which was an overwhelming process. Despite being someone who gets stuff done, I found myself unable to operate my balloon business, podcast, YouTube channel, and other social media platforms. The last podcast episode I released made me realize I was pouring from an empty cup, and that led to my decision to take a step back until I was ready.

Internal Conflict and the Decision to Pause

Making the decision to pause my work came with a lot of internal conflict. I didn't want to disappoint my listeners, but I knew I had to prioritize my well-being. I believed that those who truly support me would understand and back my decision to take care of myself first.

Lessons Learned

  1. It's Okay to Take Breaks:
  • Often, we focus on everyone else and put ourselves last. Taking a break is essential for our well-being and productivity.
  1. Don't Put Unnecessary Pressure on Yourself:
  • As entrepreneurs, we often place immense pressure on ourselves. Recognizing when we're pushing too hard is crucial.
  1. Pouring from an Empty Cup Won't Further Your Career:
  • We can't give our best when we're drained. Taking time to recharge is necessary for sustained success.
  1. Self-Care is the Highest Form of Self-Worth:
  • Prioritizing self-care shows that we value ourselves. It's a vital investment in our overall health and happiness.
  1. If You Take a Break, Schedule a Time to Come Back:
  • Planning your return helps maintain momentum and gives you a goal to work towards, ensuring you don't lose track.
